Getting around Abilene

Abilene sits on I-20 about 150 miles west of Fort Worth. Downtown is compact: the Convention Center at 1100 North 6th Street, the Paramount Theatre at 352 Cypress Street and Frontier Texas at 625 North 1st Street are a few blocks apart. The Taylor County Expo Center is out at 1700 Highway 36, and Abilene Regional Airport is about 3 miles southeast of downtown.

Distance decides most Abilene rides: DFW is 177 miles, Midland 159 and Lubbock 164, so many bookings here are long transfers. Then the calendar: the Western Heritage Classic in early May, three university commencements inside the same few days each May and December, and the West Texas Fair & Rodeo in September fill the hotels and the roads near the Expo Center.

Airport shuttle and transfers from Abilene Regional (ABI)

Abilene Regional has American Eagle flights to DFW and Phoenix, United Express to Denver and Houston, and at the moment no licensed taxi line. The chauffeur parks in the terminal lot, where the first 30 minutes are free, and meets you at baggage claim; curbside loading is allowed only while the driver stays with the vehicle. For DFW (about 2 hours 47), Midland and Lubbock (around two and a half hours each) and Austin (about 4 hours 38) we quote a single trip in a sedan, SUV or Sprinter. For an Abilene airport shuttle bus rental, a mini coach or motorcoach carries a team or tour group.

Weddings, game days and executive travel in Abilene

Wedding cars. Downtown venues cluster near Cypress Street: 201 Mesquite Event Center, The Grace Museum at 102 Cypress and The Mill at 239 Locust Street. A sedan or SUV for the couple and a Sprinter for the wedding party covers the whole day.

Game days and concerts. Wildcat Stadium at ACU seats 12,000 at 1600 Campus Court, and Shotwell Stadium at 1525 East South 11th hosts high school football. For Texas Tech in Lubbock or a Fort Worth concert, an hourly charter keeps one chauffeur through the drop-off, the wait and the ride home.

Executive and military travel. Sedans between ABI and the hotels, the Hendrick Health campus, or the Dyess visitor gate on Arnold Boulevard, with the return leg booked at the same time.

Rodeo weekends and tours. The Western Heritage Classic and the September fair at the Expo Center as an hourly charter, or a Sprinter for a tasting run to The Winery at Willow Creek and Blue Duck Winery in Cisco.

My wife and I worked with Igor and Limo SF VIP for our wedding. They did an absolutely amazing job. They provided both a luxury sprinter van to carry the bridal party and groomsmen to a first look sight at the busy palace of fine arts and then to the venue and provided luxury ~50-person bus for guests to leave venue. All of the drivers were responsive, and kind. At the end of the night the bus driver even spent an extra ~30 minutes driving the late-night party crew to several different bars after some we intended to go were closed. Overall, 6/5 service. Their prices are fair, and the team is wonderful to work with. I'd highly recommend Limo SF VIP to anyone looking for coach, private limo, or large party needs.

Excellent service! As I was boarding my flight on my way to SFO I was able to book and confirm the service last minute, so quickly. Our driver waited for us by baggage claim and helped us out with our numerous bags. The car was also fabulous! Arriving to SF in style!

Abilene limo and car service questions

In the terminal lot at 2933 Airport Boulevard, with the meeting place spelled out on your quote. ABI notes that no licensed taxi service currently works out of the terminal, and a driver may load at the curb only while staying with the vehicle, so nobody can idle at the door. Parking there is free for the first 30 minutes. If your DFW connection runs late, the flight number on your booking lets the meeting time slide to match. Downtown Abilene is about 3 miles away.

Fly into ABI when the connection works; book the car when it doesn’t. Nearly all of Abilene’s air traffic goes through DFW anyway, and American Eagle also flies to Phoenix, with United Express to Denver and Houston. DFW is 177 miles east on I-20, about 2 hours 47 minutes without traffic. Midland is 159 miles and Lubbock 164, both around two and a half hours, and Austin is 223 miles and closer to four and a half. Each of those long runs gets one fixed trip price.

Yes. The Expo Center at 1700 Highway 36 is a 5,000-seat arena with a fairground around it, and during the fair, which ran September 10 to 19 in 2026 and returns each September, the Expo lots fill on rodeo nights. An hourly charter works best: the chauffeur drops your group at the gate you pick, stays reachable, and collects you at a corner we agree on the quote rather than inside the jam. A Sprinter or mini coach suits a company night at the rodeo.

It is Abilene's ranch rodeo weekend, and yes, for the parade. The 2027 Western Heritage Classic runs May 6 to 9, with ranch rodeo rounds at the Expo Center, a chuckwagon cookoff, matched horse races and a parade through downtown. On parade morning the chauffeur waits on a side street clear of the parade, and the exact corner is written into your quote; the rest of the weekend, hotel-to-Expo transfers run normally. Hotels fill that week, so book the car when you book the room.

Yes, one quote can carry the whole weekend. ACU holds its December 2026 ceremonies at Moody Coliseum on Friday, December 11 at 7 pm (graduate) and Saturday, December 12 at 10 am (undergraduate); Hardin-Simmons graduates on December 14, 2026 and May 7, 2027, at 10 am and 2 pm; McMurry's posted calendar shows December 12, 2026 and May 8, 2027. Families flying into ABI for those dates usually book the airport transfer, the ride to the ceremony and a dinner run together, and a Sprinter carries grandparents, gowns and luggage in one trip.

Yes, as far as the Arnold Boulevard gate or wherever your base contact tells you to report. Dyess, on the west side of Abilene, is home to the 7th Bomb Wing’s B-1B bombers and the 317th Airlift Wing’s C-130Js, so contractors, families and official visitors come through town all year. Entry is handled at the Visitor Control Center and the rules are the base’s, so carry your ID and visitor paperwork. ABI to the Arnold gate is about 15 miles and is priced as one trip, the same as a hotel-to-base ride.

Because one is a distance and the other is a block of hours. A run to DFW is 177 miles each way, so it is priced as one trip by the distance and the chauffeur’s return, while prom, a wedding or a rodeo night is hourly, and each vehicle carries its own hourly minimum. Saturdays and prom season run highest; Abilene High and Wylie held prom in mid-April in 2026. The tip is not extra: the 20% gratuity already sits on the bill as its own line.

The City of Abilene for cars and small limos, and the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles once the vehicle is bus-sized. Taxicab and limousine permits are issued by the City Secretary’s Office under Ordinance 77-2014, and the city publishes a list of current permit holders. For anything built to carry more than 15 people, TxDMV requires its own registration and a much higher insurance minimum, so a party bus or coach should show both. Our Abilene rides are driven by local partner operators, and the city’s published list is the place to check a permit.

Usually not, because ice shows up in the forecast days ahead. In January 2025 Abilene was bracing for 6 to 7 inches of snow and TxDOT said its first job was keeping I-20 open, with bridges and overpasses treated first. If ice is forecast for your date, we ring you a day or two out and offer an earlier departure or a later one. The chauffeur decides on the day whether I-20 is drivable, and the terms for weather and cancellation are spelled out in the quote you accepted.

Prom night in mid-April, the Western Heritage Classic in early May, commencement weekends in May and December, and the fair in September. In 2026 two Abilene high schools picked the same April Saturday for prom, so plan a night like that well ahead. Add Wildcat home games at the 12,000-seat stadium on Campus Court in the fall, and those are the dates to reserve as soon as they’re firm.

Yes, for a family or reunion group. The park sits 16 miles southwest of Abilene at 150 Park Road 32 in Tuscola, and its swimming pool was built of red sandstone by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the early 1930s. Lake Abilene inside the park is a no-wake lake with canoe and kayak rentals, and Buffalo Wallow Pond is a favorite with kids. The park often reaches capacity, so reserve entry ahead. Book a 14-passenger Sprinter by the hour and the whole group rides out together.

Book two vehicles: an SUV or sedan for the couple, and a Sprinter that follows with the bridal party. Downtown's venues sit within a few blocks: 201 Mesquite Event Center, The Grace Museum at 102 Cypress Street and The Mill at 239 Locust Street. Frontier Texas at 625 North 1st Street and the Paramount marquee at 352 Cypress are a two-minute drive from any of them if you want photos there.
