Napa Valley Limo Wine Tours from San Francisco

Limo SF VIP runs private Napa Valley limo wine tours from San Francisco and the Bay Area: a sedan for two, an SUV for a small party or a Mercedes Sprinter for up to 14, with our own chauffeur for the whole day. You choose the wineries and the pace, and the car waits at each stop. Sonoma days work the same way. Send the date, the pickup address and the group size for a quote in 15 to 30 minutes, or call (888) 888-0195. Our Napa wine tour cost guide covers pricing.

Getting to Napa from San Francisco

Downtown Napa is about 50 miles north of San Francisco, roughly an hour on a weekday and up to two on a weekend. One route crosses the Golden Gate Bridge and follows Highway 101, Highway 37 and Highway 121 to Highway 29; the other runs over the Bay Bridge and through the East Bay. The valley itself is about 35 miles long, from the city of Napa past Yountville and St. Helena to Calistoga, which sits about 75 miles from San Francisco. Highway 29 runs up the west side and the quieter Silverado Trail up the east, and Highway 29 narrows from a divided road to two lanes north of Yountville. Flying in? See our SFO to Napa Valley page.

Planning the winery stops

Under Napa County's 1990 Winery Definition Ordinance, most wineries approved since then take visitors by appointment only, and popular ones fill their reservations weeks ahead. Visit Napa Valley suggests two or three winery visits a day, since most tastings run at least 90 minutes, are often seated, and start and end at set times. Book the tastings first, then send us the list with the times, so the booking covers the appointments, the drive between them and a lunch stop. For a larger group, check with each winery that it can take your group size.

Harvest season and busy weekends

Harvest runs from late summer through fall. Sparkling-wine grapes are often picked in early August, which marks the start of the crush, and red varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon can run through October or even early November. September and October are the busiest months of the year in the valley, so tasting reservations and weekend dates go first.

Sonoma, Healdsburg and the Wine Train

Sonoma Valley is about 45 miles north of San Francisco on Highway 12, with more than 100 wineries around Sonoma, Glen Ellen and Kenwood. At Sonoma Plaza, the city sends tour buses and limousines to a designated drop-off area inside the plaza, reached from Broadway and East and West Napa Street. Healdsburg, about 65 miles north on Highway 101, sits where the Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River valleys meet. For a Napa Valley Wine Train day, the station is at 1275 McKinstry Street in Napa, and guests are asked to check in 30 minutes before their reservation, so send the reservation time with your booking, and the car can stay with you for winery stops before or after the ride.

My wife and I worked with Igor and Limo SF VIP for our wedding. They did an absolutely amazing job. They provided both a luxury sprinter van to carry the bridal party and groomsmen to a first look sight at the busy palace of fine arts and then to the venue and provided luxury ~50-person bus for guests to leave venue. All of the drivers were responsive, and kind. At the end of the night the bus driver even spent an extra ~30 minutes driving the late-night party crew to several different bars after some we intended to go were closed. Overall, 6/5 service. Their prices are fair, and the team is wonderful to work with. I'd highly recommend Limo SF VIP to anyone looking for coach, private limo, or large party needs.

Excellent service! As I was boarding my flight on my way to SFO I was able to book and confirm the service last minute, so quickly. Our driver waited for us by baggage claim and helped us out with our numerous bags. The car was also fabulous! Arriving to SF in style!

Napa Valley wine tours: your questions

A Napa day is priced by the hour, so the total depends on the vehicle and how long the day runs from your door and back. A sedan for two costs less than a Sprinter for a group of 12, and harvest-season weekends book up first. Sprinter days start at a four-hour minimum, and the hours are counted from pickup to drop-off. The gratuity, 20%, sits on its own line, and our Napa wine tour cost guide walks through the numbers.

Plan on two or three. Visit Napa Valley points out that most tastings last at least 90 minutes, many are seated with fixed start and end times, and there's drive time between them. Add the hour or more each way from San Francisco and a lunch stop, and three appointments already make a full day. Spread them along Highway 29 or the Silverado Trail to keep the driving short.

Most do. Napa County's 1990 Winery Definition Ordinance requires wineries approved since then to take visitors by appointment only, and Visit Napa Valley notes that popular wineries fill their reservations weeks ahead. A few older wineries work differently, but booking ahead is the safe plan. If a winery says it takes walk-ins, it is likely one of the older estates; check its own site before you count on it.

It gives you control of the day. You pick the wineries, the order and how long you stay, and the car waits for you rather than a bus schedule. A shared tour suits someone traveling alone on a budget. For a couple, a family or a group of friends, a sedan, SUV or Sprinter booked by the hour turns the day into your own itinerary, with pickup at your door in San Francisco.

It depends on where you start and the traffic that day. The Golden Gate route runs up Highway 101, then across on Highway 37 and Highway 121 to Highway 29; the Bay Bridge route goes through the East Bay. Downtown Napa is about 50 miles from San Francisco either way, roughly an hour on a weekday and up to two on a weekend, and which route is faster depends on traffic that day.

Any month works, but each season feels different. Harvest runs from late summer through fall, starting with sparkling-wine grapes in early August, and September and October are the valley's busiest months, so reservations and weekend dates go fast. November gets quieter as the reds finish. If you want harvest energy, book well ahead; if you want easier reservations, look at November, when the valley gets quieter.

Yes, as long as the day is long enough. Sonoma Valley is about 45 miles from San Francisco on Highway 12, right next to Napa, so a Sonoma morning and a Napa afternoon is realistic. Healdsburg is farther, about 65 miles north on Highway 101, and suits a day of its own. At Sonoma Plaza, limousines drop off and pick up in the city's designated area inside the plaza.

Yes. The Wine Train station is at 1275 McKinstry Street in Napa, and the railroad asks guests to check in 30 minutes before their reservation, so plan your San Francisco pickup with that in mind. Send the reservation time with your booking, and the car can stay with you for winery stops before or after the ride on the same hourly booking.

Ten people fit easily in a Sprinter, which seats up to 14, so the whole party rides between wineries together. For a celebration, the Executive version with its leather seats and table is the more comfortable pick. Before you book, check with each winery that it can host ten guests, since some limit daily visitors under their permits, and send us the appointment times with your booking.

Yes. A motorcoach carries up to 56, or two mini coaches seating 27 to 36 can split the group between different wineries. Large groups need wineries that can host them, so confirm the group size with each one first. The day is booked by the hour, and the quote covers the full day from the first pickup in San Francisco to the last drop-off.

Yes. For an overnight in Napa or Sonoma, the chauffeur stays in a hotel nearby and picks you up again the next morning, so the same car and driver cover both days. Send the hotel, the winery appointments for each day and the return time. Calistoga, at the top of the valley, is about 75 miles from San Francisco, which makes it a natural place to stay overnight.

Anywhere in San Francisco or the Bay Area: a hotel lobby, a home or an office. Visitors landing for a wine weekend can be met at SFO, OAK or SJC and driven straight north; Yountville is about 67 miles from SFO and about 59 from Oakland airport. If you're flying in, include the airline and flight number with the booking, and plan the first tasting for the afternoon to leave a cushion for a late arrival.
