Limo service and car service in San Francisco: your questions
It depends on the vehicle, the hours and the date, so the figure comes from a quote rather than a price list. A sedan to SFO costs far less than a Sprinter for an evening out, and the busiest Saturdays of the prom and wedding months cost the most. Hourly trips carry a minimum, transfers are priced by distance, and the 20% gratuity sits on its own line. A written quote usually takes 15 to 30 minutes.
Start with heads and suitcases. Our sedans carry up to three riders, SUVs up to five, and a Mercedes Sprinter fourteen people with a bag each. Bigger parties step up to a coach: 27 to 36 seats in a mini coach, as many as 56 in a full motorcoach, while party buses and stretch limousines are matched to your group through partners. A San Francisco wedding party of twelve with luggage usually fits one Sprinter better than two SUVs, and your quote confirms the exact capacity.
A black car is a chauffeured sedan for one to three people, the usual pick for SFO runs and business meetings. An SUV adds room for up to five and more luggage. A Sprinter is a high-roof van that seats up to 14, so a group rides together. A stretch limousine or party bus is about the occasion, a prom or birthday, more than the transfer. Tell us the day and we'll suggest the right one.
We offer both, and the choice comes down to the evening you have in mind. A stretch limousine suits a smaller party that wants a classic arrival at a dinner, a gala or the opera. A party bus suits a larger group that wants to stand, move around and ride together between stops, such as a birthday crawl from the Marina to North Beach. Give us the head count and the plan, and the quote names the vehicle that fits.
For one or two people on a short hop across the city, an app ride usually costs less. The math changes with a group, a schedule or luggage. A Sprinter split between twelve friends, or one SUV that waits through three Financial District meetings, often compares well with several app rides plus the waiting in between. You also get a price in writing before the day, and at SFO a chauffeur meets you inside the terminal instead of a hunt for the rideshare pickup on the garage's fifth level.
One hour is usually too short, because each vehicle has an hourly minimum, four hours for a Sprinter, so a single trip like a Union Square hotel to SFO is better as a point-to-point transfer priced by the route. For the opposite case, a wedding day or a run of client meetings across the Peninsula, the office quotes a whole-day rate instead of adding hours one by one.
It's already handled: every booking carries a 20% gratuity, shown as a separate line rather than left to the end of the ride. The percentage applies to the fare and to anything the trip added, such as extra stops, waiting past the free window or a holiday surcharge. So there's no cash to hand over at the SFO curb or after a late night out, and the invoice your office receives explains every dollar.
Yes. We operate under California Public Utilities Commission charter-party permit TCP-32683, printed in our site footer, and the BBB rates us A+. With any company, ask for its TCP number and look it up on the CPUC's public carrier search, get the quote in writing with the gratuity shown, and ask who actually drives. An operator without a TCP number shouldn't be carrying paying passengers.
It will. Booking with the flight number ties the pickup to the airline's real landing time, so a two-hour delay into SFO just moves your chauffeur's start, with no call needed from you. They meet you inside the arrivals hall and help with the bags. Forty minutes from the official posted arrival are included at no charge; anything past that is added in 15-minute steps at the vehicle's hourly rate.
Inside the Bay Area, our own chauffeurs drive every booking, including the San Francisco, SFO, Oakland and San Jose airport rides. They meet airport passengers inside the terminal and help with the bags. For trips in other US cities we arrange the ride through vetted local partner operators and stay your single point of contact, from the quote to the invoice, so you deal with one company either way.
All of San Francisco plus the Peninsula, the East Bay and the South Bay, along with the three airports, SFO, OAK and SJC. Napa and Sonoma days are a regular trip, and longer transfers such as Monterey, Lake Tahoe or Sacramento are quoted on request. Outside California, rides in many US cities are arranged through our partner operators, listed on the cities page.
Book as soon as the date and pickup are fixed. A next-day ride to SFO often works out, yet Saturdays, prom nights, the summer and fall wedding stretch and weeks with a large Moscone convention take the bigger vehicles first. For a Sprinter, a coach or a Napa day, reserving several weeks out leaves the most choice. A quote commits you to nothing until you pay, so asking early is free.
Pickups away from the airports include 15 minutes of free waiting from the booked time. After that, waiting time is added at the vehicle's rate. Extra stops on a point-to-point ride, such as collecting a second guest in Noe Valley, are added to the fare, and the quote lists them so the bill holds no surprises. On an hourly booking, stops and waiting are already covered by the hours you reserved.
Both work. An assistant or a travel planner can request one quote for a visiting team or a Moscone group and pay it through a single secure link; we take Visa, MasterCard, Amex and Discover. A wedding party or a group of friends can instead split the cost into shares, which the office arranges when you ask. For deposits and changes, see our terms and conditions.
You can request one when you book, and we do our best to have it in the car. Tell us the child's age and weight so the right seat is fitted, and mention any passenger who needs a lower step or room for a folded wheelchair too. The quote says plainly what we can arrange for that date and vehicle, so a family landing at SFO isn't left sorting it out at the curb.
Yes. We pick up and drop off at the James R. Herman Cruise Terminal at Pier 27 on the Embarcadero, for rides to SFO, Oakland, San Jose or a hotel. Send the ship name and the disembarkation day, and say how many bags the group is carrying, so we can send a car, an SUV or a Sprinter with enough room. Rides to the pier before boarding work the same way, timed to the check-in window.
A parent or guardian can make the booking and stay the contact for the night. The pickup address, the venue and the drop-off time are agreed in the quote, and changes go through that parent rather than the riders. The chauffeur keeps to the agreed plan, and we explain the vehicle rules when you book. Tell us the school and the number of students, and book early, because prom Saturdays fill first.
The chauffeur stays in a hotel near your group for the length of the trip, so the same van and driver are ready each morning. That suits a multi-day wine country trip, a corporate tour around the Bay Area or a group heading to Lake Tahoe or Yosemite. Send the dates, the overnight stops and the daily plan, and the office quotes the whole trip, chauffeur and van, in one plan.
Yes. Usually, yes. Our chauffeurs handle pickups on San Francisco's narrow streets and steep blocks, at hotels and at venues with tight drives. Tell us the address when you book, and mention anything unusual, such as a gated driveway, a hill or a venue with a separate loading entrance, so the chauffeur plans where to stop and how to bring the car around. For a large group, ask whether a Sprinter makes the approach easier.
