Getting around Hickory
Hickory sits on Lake Hickory in the Catawba Valley, where US-321 crosses I-40, about 60 miles northwest of Charlotte. Downtown centers on Union Square. The Hickory Metro Convention Center is at 1960 13th Avenue Drive SE off I-40, the Hickory Furniture Mart at 2220 Highway 70 SE, and Lenoir-Rhyne University at 625 7th Avenue NE. The Crawdads play at L.P. Frans Stadium, 2500 Clement Boulevard NW.
The main thing to know: the airport is an hour away. Hickory Regional (HKY) has had no airline service since 2005 and handles private aircraft only, so airline passengers come through Charlotte Douglas, about 52 road miles away. The calendar matters too. Oktoberfest takes over about four blocks around Union Square on October 9 to 11, 2026, and the Christmas parade closes part of Main Avenue from 3 pm on November 20.
Hickory car service and shuttle service to Charlotte Douglas (CLT)
Charlotte Douglas takes about an hour, more when Charlotte traffic is heavy. CLT accepts limousine pickups only when they are arranged in advance, so your booking is in place before you fly, and the chauffeur parks in the Hourly Deck and meets you inside at baggage claim. Private flights into HKY are met at the FBO at 3103 9th Avenue Drive NW, open 7 am to 7 pm. Greensboro's Piedmont Triad airport, 92 miles east, is quoted per trip as well.
Weddings, game days and executive travel in Hickory
Weddings. For a reception on Lake Hickory or at a winery on the Catawba Valley Wine Trail, such as Silver Fork Winery in Morganton, a Sprinter can carry the wedding party while a sedan or SUV takes the couple.
Prom and school events. Prom falls in spring across Catawba County; reserve once your school publishes the date, since spring Saturdays are the busiest of the year.
Executive travel. Sedans and SUVs between Charlotte Douglas and CommScope, Hickory Springs Manufacturing, Catawba Valley Medical Center or Frye Regional, with an hourly option for a full day of meetings.
Game days and tours. Lenoir-Rhyne football at Moretz Stadium (homecoming is October 17, 2026), Crawdads nights, race nights at Hickory Motor Speedway in Newton, or a Sprinter day up US-321 to Blowing Rock and Boone.
Vehicles available through our Hickory partners

Their operation is very detailed, with a fast response time and an excellent attitude, even with last-minute changes. If you're in San Francisco, trust me, use them. My wife and I worked with Igor and Limo SF VIP for our wedding. They did an absolutely amazing job. They provided both a luxury sprinter van to carry the bridal party and groomsmen to a first look sight at the busy palace of fine arts and then to the venue and provided luxury ~50-person bus for guests to leave venue. All of the drivers were responsive, and kind. At the end of the night the bus driver even spent an extra ~30 minutes driving the late-night party crew to several different bars after some we intended to go were closed. Overall, 6/5 service. Their prices are fair, and the team is wonderful to work with. I'd highly recommend Limo SF VIP to anyone looking for coach, private limo, or large party needs.Posted on Google![]()

Excellent service! As I was boarding my flight on my way to SFO I was able to book and confirm the service last minute, so quickly. Our driver waited for us by baggage claim and helped us out with our numerous bags. The car was also fabulous! Arriving to SF in style!Posted on Google![]()

Hickory limo and car service questions
Inside, at baggage claim. CLT only admits limousine and sedan pickups that were arranged in advance, and the operator must carry a manifest showing your booking, so the ride is settled before you land. The chauffeur parks in the Hourly Deck, which the airport lists as its closest parking, and walks in to meet you at the carousel. Give us your flight number so the timing tracks your real landing, and the drive north to Hickory is about 52 road miles, roughly an hour.
Private aircraft only. Hickory Regional (HKY), at 3103 9th Avenue Drive NW, lost its last airline when Delta Connection stopped flying in 2005, and today it handles charter and corporate aircraft. Its city-run FBO is staffed 7 am to 7 pm every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas, so the car can be waiting there when you taxi in. Airline travelers use Charlotte Douglas, about 52 road miles to the southeast. Piedmont Triad in Greensboro is 92 miles east, around an hour and forty minutes, and either airport is priced as one flat transfer.
Yes, book it as an hourly charter. The Hickory Metro Convention Center, 1960 13th Avenue Drive SE, sits on the south side of town close to I-40 and offers about 76,000 square feet of meeting space, with a largest room holding up to 2,450. On an hourly booking the chauffeur drops you at the entrance, stays close by and brings the car around when you text, which helps when the end of a gala is hard to predict.
A few blocks outside the closed streets, at a corner we name on your quote. Oktoberfest, October 9 to 11, 2026, takes over roughly four city blocks around 246 Union Square NW and brings in about 60,000 people across three days, with Saturday hours running 10 am to 11 pm. On Friday, November 20, 2026, the parade closes 4th Street and Main Avenue as far west as 1st Avenue from 3 pm, then the whole route from 5:15 pm ahead of the 5:45 pm start. Expect a short walk to the car on both dates.
It should. Lenoir-Rhyne's next Hickory commencement is Friday, May 7, 2027, at 6 pm in Moretz Stadium on the campus at 625 7th Avenue NE, which means relatives flying into Charlotte Douglas that afternoon drive north during the evening commute. We time the airport pickup so the group is seated before the ceremony begins. Homecoming falls on Saturday, October 17, 2026, with a 2 pm kickoff against Wingate. This year's new students moved in on August 21, 2026, three days before fall classes began.
Yes, through an hourly charter. Large employers such as CommScope, Hickory Springs Manufacturing, Catawba Valley Community College, and the two hospitals, Catawba Valley Medical Center and Frye Regional Medical Center, are spread across the area. Keeping one sedan or SUV with the group between meetings removes the wait for each separate ride, and the stops are listed in order on your quote so the chauffeur has the day mapped before you set out. The Charlotte Douglas legs at the start and end of the visit are priced as their own transfers.
Per trip rather than per mile. Charlotte Douglas is about 52 road miles from Hickory, so the transfer is quoted as one flat figure. Beyond distance, three things move it: the vehicle (a sedan costs least, a 14-passenger Sprinter more), the date (Saturdays in prom and wedding season run highest), and the type of booking, because a wedding or a Crawdads night at L.P. Frans Stadium in town is charged by the hour against the vehicle's minimum. A 20% gratuity is added on top and shown as its own line, and quotes come back in 15 to 30 minutes.
Ask for two things: proof of North Carolina DMV registration as a for-hire carrier and a current certificate of insurance. G.S. 20-382.1 bars a for-hire passenger carrier from operating inside the state until it registers with the Division of Motor Vehicles and confirms that each for-hire vehicle is insured. The Utilities Commission's Rule R2-36 sets the liability minimum at $1,500,000 for a vehicle with 15 seats or fewer, rising to $5,000,000 once seating reaches 16. The partner operator who drives you in Hickory provides both papers to us, and we forward them before the ride if you ask.
We call as soon as the forecast turns. Hickory averages about 7.7 inches of snow a year, yet a winter storm can stop the city: on January 24, 2026 it declared a state of emergency, asked people to skip non-essential travel, and with NC-127 and Tate Boulevard plowed first, clearing was still under way five days later. We then suggest leaving for Charlotte earlier, or rebooking for a different time. On the day itself, the chauffeur decides if US-321 and I-40 are fit to drive, and the quote you accept states what happens to a booking that weather disrupts.
Two, back to back. Oktoberfest brings about 60,000 visitors downtown on October 9 to 11, 2026, Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Wingate for homecoming on Saturday, October 17, and High Point Market's posted calendar shows its fall edition opening that same weekend, running October 17 to 21. After October, the dates to plan around are the November 20 Christmas parade, spring prom weekends and the May 7, 2027 commencement. If you need a Sprinter or stretch limousine for any of these, put the request in well ahead.
It needs a little slack in the schedule, not a change of plan. NCDOT is widening 13.9 miles of US-321 to six lanes, from just north of US-70 in Hickory to Southwest Boulevard in Lenoir, and its project page lists intersection changes as the first phase. We add time for whatever stage the work has reached when we set your departure. Past Lenoir the highway climbs toward Blowing Rock and Boone. A 14-passenger Sprinter on a full-day hourly charter leaves the group time in Blowing Rock and for dinner in Boone before heading home.
Yes. The Hickory Furniture Mart at 2220 Highway 70 SE packs more than 100 outlets and galleries into four levels and over a million square feet, open Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm, and its shoppers come from an average of 38 states each week. High Point lies east on I-40 beyond Winston-Salem, which is itself 68 miles from Hickory. The market's posted schedule lists the Fall Market for October 17 to 21, 2026. Each leg, Hickory to High Point and back, is quoted as its own one-way trip in a sedan or SUV.
